FAQ's

As part of our service we are always available to plan every detail of your special occasion. However, we can try to address a few of the more common questions here! If what you would like to know isn't covered, just drop us an email and we'll be happy to help.

The Performance

What time will the band arrive?

Depending on the agreed start time of our first set, the band aim to arrive and set-up/sound check 1:30hr before we are due to start. We can set up and sound check before guests arrive, but if we are required to set up earlier in the day an additional fee may be required.

How long does it take the band to set up?

It usually takes us about an hour but this can vary.

How long will the band play for?

Our service includes 2 hours of live music, split over 2 sets.  Usually two 1 hours sets.  Otherwise, in our experience, we find a shorter 1st set and longer 2nd set works well.

How long are the intervals between sets?

The intervals are usually around 45 minutes long but this can be shorter or longer to suit your requirements on the day. If you are contacting us for your wedding, we advise timing the interval when you serve your evening buffet (if applicable).

What time should the band start playing?

This is completely up to you and your schedule on the day. In our experience, we find it's often best to start the band at around 9pm but this is purely a guide.

Will the band learn a specific song to be played at our Event / Wedding?

We will learn one special song for free so if you have a first dance or a song to the end the night on, just let us know at least 2 months before the event.

Can we choose the set list?

You're welcome to send over a short list of your favourite/least-liked songs from our repertoire and we will try to include/exclude these in our set. But please bear in mind that our set has been carefully prepared through our experience of audience reaction and what we feel works best to get everyone up dancing, with consideration of our sound and style.

Does the band provide music between and before sets?

Yes, we are happy to provide music via an iPhone/other audio device between sets and for a short time (approx. 15-20 mins) whilst we pack down at the end of our performance. This is usually a pre-selected playlist from Spotify, which we can send to you in advance. If you have particular songs in mind, you're also welcome to create your own iPod playlists, which can be played through our PA system.

What will the band wear?

We always dress smart in shirts, waistcoats and trousers (please visit our website Gallery)

Will the band require refreshments?  It would be hugely appreciated if some food can be provided. For evening performances, the Shoo Flies would request that they can partake in the buffet where possible.

Booking The Shoo Flies

How do I confirm a booking?

To secure your booking we initially require a £100 deposit (non refundable). On request, we will send you a contract containing instructions on how to pay and outlining all our legal obligations to you. Your booking is secured once we receive the deposit, at which point we will contact you by email to confirm. Please note, once the contract has been sent, your date is held for 2 weeks to allow time for parties to agree. We do not provisionally hold dates at the first point of contact, unless a firm interest is promptly established

Are there any hidden fees such as VAT?

No, all fee's such as VAT are included in the price quoted to you.

Do you travel?

Of course! We've even played internationally!  We do charge for the time depending on the location and you'll need to cover transportation, and accommodation (and possibly equipment hire for international locations) for all band members.  PS - if the location is within a couple hours drive, it's already included within our basic package at no extra charge.

Do you play same-sex weddings?

Absolutely!  We play all weddings.  Please don't hesitate to contact us!

What if the band or member of the band can't make it on the day?

In the unlikely event that we are unable to attend, we will try our best find a suitable replacement or offer a full refund at your request.

How far ahead of the wedding will you be in contact to go over the day-of details?

We'll get in touch 2 months before your event to enquire of your preferred set timings, and 1st dance request.  And again 2 weeks prior to confirm all details.
